Chevrolet Unveils All-New Corvette ZR1
On the 25th (local time), Chevrolet introduced the upgraded supercar, the Corvette ZR1, boasting even more powerful performance.
The Corvette ZR1 features a twin-turbo 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, delivering an impressive 1,079 horsepower and 1,121 Nm of torque. Chevrolet claims this engine is the most powerful V8 engine ever produced in the United States.
Sharing many similarities with the LT6 engine in the Corvette Z06, the LT7 engine in the ZR1 has undergone significant upgrades to accommodate the new turbocharger.
The new engine includes a redesigned head casting with larger combustion chambers and unique ports, optimized valve timing and lift profiles, as well as advanced anti-lag engine calibration technology. Additionally, it features a secondary fuel injection system and unique pistons and connecting rods.
The engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, which includes stronger shafts, improved lubrication, and wider profile gears.
The dry weight of the Corvette ZR1 coupe is 1,665 kg, while the convertible version weighs 1,705 kg. Customers can opt for a carbon ceramic braking system with 400mm front and 390mm rear discs.
The Corvette ZR1 can accelerate from 129 to 322 km/h and back to 129 km/h in just 24.5 seconds, making it 22% faster than the previous generation C7 ZR1 and 53% faster than the C6 ZR1.
The hood features an air intake that channels air through the intercooler and out through the hood, aiding cooling and increasing front downforce.
The car is equipped with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, available in carbon fiber or aluminum, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Additionally, there are various carbon fiber packages including a front splitter, rocker moldings, side intakes, and a front underwing.
Available in both coupe and convertible, the Corvette ZR1 can be transformed into a true track machine with the ZTK performance package option. This includes a large rear wing, front dive planes, and a hood gurney lip. The package also includes stiffer springs, dampers, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, along with aerodynamic styling changes.
The interior of the Corvette ZR1 remains largely unchanged from existing Corvette models but features a ZR1 badge on the steering wheel, sill plate, and plaque.
Chevrolet announced that production of the Corvette ZR1 will begin next year, with more detailed specifications and pricing information to be released at a later date.
